Apr\u00e8s de longs mois de tractation, le r\u00e9gulateur \u00e9thiopien a fait son choix : la nouvelle licence t\u00e9l\u00e9coms sera attribu\u00e9e au consortium men\u00e9 par l\u2019op\u00e9rateur k\u00e9nyan Safaricom, dans lequel on retrouve Vodacom et Vodafone, le japonais Sumitomo et le britannique CDC Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le consortium avait offert pr\u00e8s de 697 millions d\u2019euros pour la licence et l\u2019a donc emport\u00e9 sur MTN, seul autre op\u00e9rateur encore en lice, associ\u00e9 au chinois The Silk Road Fund of China et qui n\u2019avait propos\u00e9 que 492 millions d\u2019euros, un montant jug\u00e9 trop bas par le r\u00e9gulateur \u00e9thiopien \u2013 \u00e0 vrai dire, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcentral.co.za\/mtn-safaricom-bid-less-than-expected-for-ethiopia-licences\/107424\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">croit savoir le site Tech Central<\/a><\/strong>, les deux offres sont largement en-dessous du montant esp\u00e9r\u00e9 par le gouvernement \u00e9thiopien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4G, 5G, et une couverture satellite<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le consortium dirig\u00e9 par Safaricom &#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessdailyafrica.com\/bd\/corporate\/companies\/safaricom-reveals-ownership-of-ethiopia-venture-3413070\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">qui poss\u00e9dera 55,7&nbsp;% du capital<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; fournira des services internet 4G et 5G, et d&#8217;ici 2023, un satellite en orbite basse sera mis en place pour assurer une couverture 4G \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9chelle nationale, a d\u00e9taill\u00e9 Brook Taye, l&#8217;un des responsables du projet au sein de CDC Group, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2021\/5\/22\/ethiopia-awards-telecom-licence-to-safaricom-led-consortium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00e0 Al Jazeera<\/a><\/strong>. Il devrait \u00e9galement cr\u00e9er jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 1,5 million de nouveaux emplois et g\u00e9n\u00e9rer 8,5 milliards de dollars d&#8217;investissements sur dix ans, d\u2019apr\u00e8s le gouvernement \u00e9thiopien. \u00ab&nbsp;Ce sera le plus grand investissement direct \u00e9tranger en \u00c9thiopie \u00e0 ce jour, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Premier ministre Abiy Ahmed sur Twitter.
